Not quite what I was looking for. Then I thought...what could I use?? CRISCO-butter flavored.
I thought I would give it a shot. Crisco in the cubes is so easy to use. Anyway so I replaced the butter with Crisco & the sauce wasn't right. The Crisco didn't melt. It formed a paste. So I gave up after stirring for 10 minutes on the stove and poured the frosting like sauce on the puffed wheat. It was ok, but had a weird after taste...greasy like. BUT the next day it seemed to appear like the puffed wheat cake that I know & love ;o). It was ok.Then I went to a new store in town called Food 2 Store. They have been here 2 months and I was impressed. My father-in-law mentioned it on Sunday and so I thought I would investigate. I am definatly going there again! They have samples you can try & I tried the freeze dried shredded mozzarella cheese & the freeze dried pineapple.
THE FREEZE DRIED PINEAPPLE WAS AMAZING!!!!!! I have to get it when I go back! They have lots of fruit dried. I am linking the website here, so you can check it out & see what they have. If you live in town check it out they have samples! They had freeze dried broccoli.
I didn't try it, but I am sure it would be good. (if you like broccoli like we do LOL). Ok I bought powdered butter there & it was $22 for a #10 can! BUT it will last me a long time.I ran home & tried the recipe with the powdered butter. HATED IT. For one thing the #10 can KILLED my can opener :o( When I added the powdered butter in the recipe I added water like it suggested. I am thinking water isn't right. It didn't blend at all into this recipe well. Powdered butter must only be used for baking I guess :o(. SO I would say CAN butter or use Crisco if you want to make this one. I am going to can butter LOL. I also thought it would be cool to make your own puffed wheat, but looking online at the instructions...looks a BIT complicated haha! Ok so here is the recipe for Puffed Wheat Cake if you want to try it (the real way haha):

PUFFED WHEAT CAKE!
1/2 Cup Butter
1/2 Cup Corn Syrup
1 Cup Brown Sugar
2 tsp Cocoa
2 tsp vanilla
8 Cups Puffed Wheat
Put the butter, corn syrup, brown sugar, cocoa, and vanilla into a saucepan and bring to a boil.
Measure out the 8 cups of puffed wheat & put into a large bowl. Pour the sauce on top of the puffed wheat & toss to coat. Technically you are to press it into a buttered pan, but in my family we eat it like caramel corn. It's an easy & fun snack to make! My kids love it like I do! Enjoy!!
