I Talked To My Boss!

I know some of this is repetative from the last post, but it has more info....

I have had a sales rep ask me 4 times if I would be her account manager (making appointments & doing the paperwork...) and I talked to some people in the office & they said I wouldn't make more than $12.50 an hour and for a lot more stress (and I was gonna be making $14 in January for less stress (hopeful!)) Anyway so I have told her no I don't think so. I loved my job at the front desk. Then my friend quit because she couldn't work with her sister any longer & her sales rep talked to the vice president of operation if he could have me be his account manager. So the vice pres calls me in (we are the same age haha ;o)) and he asks me if I want to do it...I said uhh not right now. I don't think I would like it. Then I went home & talked to my husband about it & he totally said I should do it. Then I called my sister on Monday & she was like, "Are you crazy? You should take it...I would be flies on poo for that job!" LOL! Anyway so I thought...yeah I will tell the sales rep that I will do it. So I went to him & asked him if the offer still stood & he said yes. Then he talked to my boss that day & I was a bit nervous (my boss, another vice pres, who has told people they wouldn't make good account managers in the past...very blunt & open.) So I called the sales rep later that day & asked him how the conversation went down before I talked to my boss...and I told him I was smart to ask him right?? ;o) And he agreed....he said that my boss totally agreed that he thought I would do well & that if I wanted it I should do it. So I tried to get with him yesterday & I felt like he was avoiding me LOL! Geez I am getting my mind overworking! So today he met with me & my front desk partner & we talked about what we need to do for this week & the Halloween party he wants to have, etc. And he asked if there was anything else....and I said, "Well I want that job with Kevin." And he said he wanted to talk to me without Tara there & so we finished our regular meeting & I stayed after. He told me he thought I would be really good & he warned me that if they hire someone for my position that I won't be able to go back & if I didn't like the job I would be ending my relationship with Impact (the telephone book company I work for...). I told him I knew that & that I was ready to stop doing a monkey's job (that is what the president of the company has said...) and that I wanted a more respected job. Oh my gosh I have NEVER done a real hard job in my life (well I don't think that call center, shipping coordinator, and receptionist are hard jobs...) and so I am nervous! I start in 2 weeks & I need to interview people for the position! All I have to do is find businesses that want to advertise in our phonebook & get my sales rep in the door!!!! If any of you know of any businesses that want to advertise in a phone book let me know! ;o) Advertising is key! My boss says if we hit our goals in this next book that they are giving away a trip for 2 (for both the account manager & the sales rep...so trip for 4 basically) to Hawaii! Pretty sure I want that! And he said there will be other monetary things handed out as well...so he said now is the time to get in!

Oh & my boss shared something today that was impressive. He said that all of our books are not made by cutting down trees, but by all recycled paper & tree waste. AND he said the ink is soy based & that if we wanted to eat the pages we could & not get sick (LOL pretty sure I won't try that...doesn't sound very appetizing LOL!;o)). He said that it takes only 6 months for a phone book to disintegrate in a landfill and it even helps the organisms to break down the other garbage in the landfill. Something people don't realize with recycling centers are they are big wasters of power & time. They have to break down the pages & then they have to wash the paper & then they break it down by the fibers & then use it again. Sounds like a lot of wasted energy to me... He also said that the phone book is largely used by 25-38 year olds the most! Yeah sure we are all online, but I know I use the phone book most regularly! He said that age is the ones that use it most because a lot of people that age are buying their 1st home, getting married, having a family, needing that 1st plumbing job done on their pipes, doctor visits, etc etc. They USE the phone book. So I truly belive in what I do & I KNOW advertising is key to any businesses success! I have to say the phone book is where it's at!
