Last Friday I went to Mary McGraham's house with Tina (we brought our kids...) and Mary gave me some great tips on what I could do for the karaoke contest. I gave her my cd I made of karaoke songs (it was expensive, but worth it! I LOVE karaoke & now I can take it every time and not have to look through the books for my favorites...) anyway I was leaning towards doing Nancy Sinatra's These Boots Are Made For Walkin' song and so Mary gave me some pointers of what I can do on stage. She is so cool! When it was Tina's turn she had to record something so I took the kids to her car & we took turns telling each other stories. The most popular of stories was about bears & also firefighters saving kittens. The kids REALLY liked the story I told of 2 friends both with the same name, Benjamin. And how they always got to play and even go camping. (that's where the bears came in LOL). It was a good time.

I LOVE this song!! The line about, "If you never try you'll never know just what your worth." is my favorite!! I am REALLY leaning towards singing this song! I have it as one of my songs on my CD. I want to explain to the audience why I would be singing this slow song as opposed to singing an upbeat sassy song...it isn't me. I want to sing something that I can "feel". Something that's "me". So there is a karaoke website that I have free membership for & here is me singing that song: .
Tell me what you think. I am thinking about saying why this song means a lot to me and thanking my friends & hubby for coming and supporting me during the instrumental part. I did a new recording of the song & another member of the site said that it isn't a good contest song. I appreciated his honesty. Let me know honestly what song you think I would do good with ;o).
Caryn suggested I sing Killing Me Softly by the Fugees because I was very comfortable with that song & it shows range.

It seems I had to login in order to see the last link. But out of the 3 mentioned I'd vote for Killing Me Softly. I'm not a karaoke girl though so don't put too much weight in my opinion. I did like the coldplay song but I can see the point in it not having enough range.
So I have had 2 people tell the Killing Me Softly song...part of me is thinking the boots one...ugh it's tomorrow!! ahhhh ;o)
I ended up doing the Boots song...The judges LOVED it! ;o) They totally smiled through it haha. I walked around & sang to people & had confidence. BUT I thought this was the big competition & it was to qualify? So weird! So on May 16th is the big competition with 24 people. I am in the running. They will break that down to 8 people & have the finals on the 22nd. Part of me hopes they change the date because I was supposed to travel on the 22nd to MT. UGH! Now I am trying to figure out what song to do for the big one LOL ;o)
